Spotting fake profiles

Updated: 2026-09-042 min read

Watch for missing verification, unusually low prices and prepayment requests. Cross-check photos. If you suspect a fake, press Report and choose Fake profile.

Fake profiles are one of the main threats on classifieds. Here is how to spot them before contact and what to do.

What may indicate a fake profile

Inconsistent photos

Photos look taken from the internet or don't match in style/background.

Copied photos

The same photos can be found in other listings or on stock sites.

Suspicious links

Asking to follow an external link before talking.

Rush to another messenger

Pressure: "message me on WhatsApp/Telegram right away" for no reason.

Inconsistent location/info

City, age or details change between messages.

Prepayment request

Demanding a "booking" prepayment before meeting is a red flag.
