Block and unblock a contact
Stop messages and calls from a specific account and manage your block list in chat or Settings.
Where to find it
Sign in to your account first
In this guide
Blocking restricts private messages and calls between your account and the selected user. Sign in to manage it. Block a contact from an open conversation’s header, or review and unblock accounts under Dashboard → Settings → Blocked. Blocking, removing a conversation and submitting a report are separate actions with different results.
Before blocking
- Sign in and verify the selected contact’s name in the chat header.
- If a report is needed, identify the relevant context before deleting messages; blocking does not submit a report automatically.
Example: a removed chat returns
You remove a conversation, but it reappears after another message arrives. That is the expected effect of removing it from your list. To restrict private messages and calls between the accounts, open the chat, choose Block and confirm. Submit a separate report if a violation occurred.
Block from a conversation
Verify the account
Open Messages and select the intended conversation. Check the name and associated listing to avoid restricting someone else. If you plan to report a violation, keep only the necessary report context before deleting relevant messages.
Use the block control
Select Block account in the chat header, beside the call controls on desktop and mobile. A confirmation explains what will happen. Cancel or close the dialog if you do not want to proceed.
Confirm and check
Confirm Block and wait for the result. The chat shows that messages and calls are unavailable until unblocking. A ringing or accepted call between the accounts is ended. If the action fails, check connectivity and review the current state before retrying.
Review the list and unblock
Open the block list
Open Settings → Blocked. The panel lists blocked accounts. If loading fails, select Retry. An empty list means no accounts blocked by you are present in the loaded list.
Select Unblock
Find the intended name and select Unblock. Wait for success and for the item to leave the list. The existing chat also offers unblocking through its block control, with confirmation in the dialog.
Consider restrictions from the other side
After unblocking, communication can resume if no other block applies and call preferences permit it. Your action does not override the other person’s block or disabled calls. Unblocking does not restore deleted messages or automatically start a conversation.
Choose the action that fits
| Block | Restricts private messages and calls between accounts. It does not automatically remove a public listing or establish that the person committed a violation. |
|---|---|
| Remove conversation | Removes the conversation from your own list. The other participant keeps it and a new message can make it reappear. Use blocking when your intention is to prevent further contact. |
| Report | Submits a separate problem report for review. Include relevant context. Blocking does not itself submit a report or guarantee a moderation outcome. |
Safety beyond the chat
Blocking an account cannot retract a phone number or external contact already shared, or copies someone already made. Review other channels if contact continues outside FayVay. Do not test a block by repeatedly calling from other accounts. For an immediate threat, use the appropriate local emergency service; a platform report does not replace emergency help.
Common questions
Why can I still see earlier messages?
Blocking restricts communication rather than clearing history. Existing messages can remain visible. Deleting your own messages and removing the conversation are separate actions. Consider the irreversible effect before confirming a message deletion.
How do I disable calls for everyone?
Open Settings → Privacy, turn off Allow audio and video calls and save. Messages remain available when no other restriction applies. Call notifications are configured separately.
