Voice messages: record, preview and send
Record in a conversation, listen before sending and manage playback and deletion.

In this guide
Voice messages are available when signed in through a supported browser and when the platform enables the feature. The microphone button is beside the composer in Dashboard → Messages. Recording can also appear in the contact form of a listing linked to a registered owner. It requires HTTPS, a working microphone and browser permission. Recording limits follow the current settings.
Before recording
- You need login, an available microphone, a supported HTTPS browser and recording permission.
- Check the recipient, choose a quiet place and remove any selected file that prevents recording.
Two different deletion actions
| Delete a draft | Delete recording in the preview discards the unsent voice draft. The recipient does not receive it. |
|---|---|
| Delete a sent message | Your message menu removes a sent recording for both participants after confirmation; copies already made are outside that action. |
Example: background conversation was captured
The preview includes someone else’s background conversation. Do not select Send: delete the draft and record elsewhere. If it was already sent, use your own message’s menu while remembering that the recipient may already have listened or made a copy.
Record and review a voice message
Open the intended conversation
Check the recipient and associated listing. Remove a selected file attachment if it prevents recording. Communication is unavailable while a block applies. Let a previous send finish before starting the microphone.
Select the microphone
Select Record voice message and allow access. Your browser and operating system can each have a separate permission. If access was blocked, change it for FayVay in the browser’s site settings. Recording and the timer show that capture has started.
Finish or cancel
Select Stop recording to create a draft. Cancel recording discards the current attempt without sending it. Capture stops when its allowed duration is reached. Finish or cancel before switching to another conversation while recording.
Listen to the preview
In Voice message ready, press Play and check the volume, background sounds and content. Delete recording in this block removes the unsent draft so you can record again. Listening to the preview does not itself send the message.
Send it
Select Send and wait for the voice message to appear in the conversation. Keep the page open during upload. If sending fails, the draft remains available to retry in the current page. Check that the message has not already appeared before sending again.
Listen to received recordings
Press Play to start and press again to pause. Select a point on the waveform to move within the recording; keyboard controls include the arrow keys and Home/End. You can replay after reaching the end. Starting another voice recording pauses the previous one. Listening does not require access to your microphone. If nothing is audible, check device volume, connected headphones and the playback control.
Your voice and deletion
The recipient can listen to a sent recording. Keep passwords, one-time codes, payment data and other people’s conversations without consent out of it. The interface does not offer transcription of the voice note. You can confirm deletion of your own sent recording through the message menu for both participants, but this does not remove copies already made by the recipient. You cannot delete another person’s message that way.
Recording and upload problems
The microphone is missing or busy?
Check site and system permission, microphone connection and other apps using it. Open a current browser directly rather than an embedded messenger browser. You can use text while investigating; see the camera and microphone guide for detailed checks.
The recording is empty or too large?
Record a brief test phrase and confirm that the timer advances. Shorten a recording if its size is rejected. Renaming a file extension does not resolve a file-validation error. Duration and size limits can change, so follow the current error and interface.
Need to stop unwanted communication?
Block the account from the chat header and submit a separate report if needed. Deleting a draft, deleting a sent message and removing a conversation are different actions. None automatically substitutes for blocking the person.
